Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or again. This makes it his fifth time winning the prestigious award and he is now tied with Lionel Messi for most times winning the award BBC Article . These two guys have won the award for the last 10 years straight. Never in the history of football have we seen two players dominate the top like this, the only other comparison is between Maradona and Pele but those two did not play at the same time and for rivals clubs.

Most people would be too young to see Pele, Garrincha, Zico, Puskas and those type of players play football. All we have are clips and articles, but that isn’t the same as watching Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi play week in week out. Instead of wasting time arguing over which player is better, it is better to just appreciate the fact that we will be able to say we saw them play at their peak.
In my lifetime, I have seen 4 players that are in my favourite top 5 players of all time; Ronaldo(R9), Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Ronaldinho is still the most magical of all but when it comes to goal scoring and longevity, CR7 and the little magician are on a different level. We may never see these type of footballers again. We take what they are doing for granted but the numbers are insane when you stop and think about it.

remember when a striker giving you 25,30 goals a season was incredible? well, these have destroyed that. Now when a striker scores 25 goals a season we look at them like, is that it? Cristiano Ronaldo deserves a lot of credit because he has already passed the age where great players start to fall off the map normally. Every time they say he is losing it, he turns it around and goes on to achieve great things.
He deserves his Ballon d’Or and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins one more before he retires. Lionel Messi has started this season better in La Liga and CR7 is leading in the champions league so next year will be interesting. Neymar came third and he is looking like the only player that can break up this stranglehold that both these players have on the trophy. The future is also looking bright as players like Mbappe, Eden Hazard and co all have the potential to win the award in the future.
