Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will be joining Real Madrid before the start of the new season.
The highly-rated goalkeeper is currently waiting to fly to Spain and do a medical with the Madrid based club.
In order to get the Belgian keeper, Real Madrid has offered Kovacic on loan plus cash as they desperately want him to join their team this season.
Chelsea is stuck between a rock and a hard place as the player only has one more year left on his contract. This means that Courtois can wait one year and leave for free next season.
It simply makes more sense for Chelsea to sell him while they can still get good money for the player who is still in his prime.
New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri now has the difficult task of finding a world-class goalkeeper to replace Courtois with just a few weeks left before the start of the new season.
