Football fans are some of the most fickle supporters you can find. If you have one good month, you are the next Pele and if you have a bad month, then you are trash. People are now saying Cristiano Ronaldo should not win the Ballon d’Or, because Madrid has started off the season in bad form.

The same people who were salivating when he took off his shirt at the Nou Camp couple months ago are now saying the guy is done and dusted. They were saying how Madrid is now the top team around and Barcelona is washed up. Now that Barcelona has started off the La Liga season undefeated and Messi has scored more goals than Ronaldo, they are changing colours like a Chameleon.

The new song of the day is that Messi should win the Ballon d’Or and not Cristiano Ronaldo. Apparently winning La Liga and being the top scorer in the Champions League for your team is not good enough anymore. When CR7 was scoring 50,60 goals a season and not winning the award, the cry was “it’s not about personal stats, it’s about trophies”. Now that Messi is scoring more goals, the cry has suddenly changed to “It’s about individual achievements and stats”. Top La Liga Scorers This Season

So far this season, the little magician has scored 12 goals in La Liga, way ahead of Ronaldo who only has one. of course, this should not surprise any serious football fan, as CR7 missed 4 games due to suspension and that no doubt through off the whole rhythm of the Real Madrid team, not to mention he is clearly getting older and slower, but logic does not apply when it comes to Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

The fact that the guy is still being considered a candidate for the Ballon d’Or at this stage of his career is a testament to his greatness. By now, most players are gone and forgotten with nothing but past glories to talk about. For a footballer, 30 years old is like 50 years old for other people. When you reach that age, people start to expect less from you and give you alot more leeway for errors and bad performances, unless your name is Cristiano Ronaldo.

The fact remains, Cristiano Ronaldo has done more than enough to win the Ballon d’Or again. This should make him equal with Messi at 5 awards each. The bad spell Real Madrid is going through should have no impact on the awards this year. The award is based on last season’s performances and last season, Ronaldo was the best player in the world. The same Juventus team Barcelona could not score against, Ronaldo scored a double against in a Champions League final. if that isn’t good enough then I don’t know what will convince his detractors.
