This incident occurred in Uganda but African Politics will no doubt be laughed at again. This entire incident reads like something out of a bad comedy sketch on Saturday Night Live. The rumble started over the two parties falling out over age limits, but to be honest I don’t care what the cause is. This is embarrassing for the people of Uganda and the great continent of Africa on a whole. Newsweek reported on the incident and it made American Politicians look decent Newsweek Story

There is always the narrative that African nations are incapable of looking after themselves. That somehow the only way these countries can do anything right is if they get ‘help’ from Western Countries. Of course, I believe that is nonsense but maybe I am allowing my heart to rule my mind? This display certainly doesn’t help the cause and gives me any sort of confidence in these politicians ability to lead effectively.

The people of Uganda deserve leaders that ca at least do the very basics; disagree on issues without resorting to violence. The irony is these politicians pass laws that send people to prison for assault and violence and look at them throwing down like Wrestlemania. The reality is nothing will come out of this, no punishments, no sackings, nothing. Anyone who lives in a developing country knows that accountability is like seeing a real life Unicorn, not gonna happen!

accountability is like seeing a real life Unicorn, not gonna happen

A country is like a river, whatever is at the top runs down to the bottom. If this is what the leaders are like imagine what the unemployed, poor citizens are facing? if the so-called educated leaders deal with disagreements like this, what on earth are the regular less educated citizens supposed to act like? The difference is if citizens act like this, they are named and shamed and suffer great consequences. These ‘leaders’ will not face any repercussion for this mockery of the nation’s parliament. Sad sights, sad indeed………
