Let’s be honest here, Puerto Rico was already done before Hurricane Maria landed. The country was up to its neck in debt, well actually drowning in debt plus the infrastructure looked more like a 3rd world country than one of America’s baby states. I’m not going to get into reasons why as they are already down and the last thing they need is to be reminded about the clowns they keep electing to put nonsense policies into place.

the people of Puerto Rico are extremely resourceful

I will say that the people of Puerto Rico are extremely resourceful, so Let’s not get carried away, there will not be any famines and starvation of babies over there. They will find ways to survive until aid arrives, of this I am certain. People need to just stop acting like it was a booming paradise of prosperity and then Maria turned up and destroyed it all.

The country already suffered from brain drain, the best and brightest minds are always the first to leave when economies tumble and rightfully so. Why should you stay and be taxed up to your eyeballs to fund the latest get rich quick scheme from some populist politician? The people who vote him/her into power are the ones who should deal with the consequences of their vote, everybody else needs to head to a place where they are rewarded for being productive.

The recovery from Maria will be easier than the recovery from Maria. One is a result of mother nature and the other is a result of a poor fiscal policy. At least with nature, there is nothing we can do, but economics? we have seen this before but nobody learns or listens. 2 plus 2 equals 4, all day every day and likewise nonsense economic policies that include huge borrowing to fund “free” services in a country that doesn’t generate enough revenues to cover their basic bills can only lead to disaster. Crying all day about what’s fair and what’s right isn’t going to change that. All I can do is wish them the best, honestly.
