Today’s by-election in North West St Andrew suffered from very low voter turnout. Up until 3 PM, two hours before polls were closed, the turnout was a shambolic 18.5% of the 30,216 total eligible voters.

This figure should increase slightly but the writing is already on the wall. The two main candidates are Dr Nigel Clarke and Keisha Hayle from the PNP.

Why are these by-elections held on working days? if the polls close at 5 PM then that would naturally cause a lot of people to miss out on a chance to cast their vote. Most people don’t care about politics(unfortunately) that much to book time off work to go vote in my opinion.
